Cape Verde-
visited in November 2005

After Senegal, we head to Praia in the island of Santiago in Cape Verde. We visit the school chosen by the UNICEF office: Escola de Lavadouro, where we are once again very welcomed by the director, teacher and the 38 children. They do a very great job, we do so too with the pictures. Up to now, the Cape verdian gallery is among our preferred ones. We were eager to visit Cape Verde, and are not at all disappointed. On the contrary, we are already looking forward to visiting the other islands. Santiago and the other islands (from what I have read in our LP guide), being very arid, we suppose that the name Cape Verde comes from the marvellous and crystalline sea they have! We profit from the week end to take a break and escape to Tarrafal (a city in the northern part of Santiago), where we are amazed by the water, and seduced by the quiet and very nice town. Resting on the rocks, after a jump in the water, we even have the surprise to see a sea turtle and its two babies emerging just where we were swimming a few minutes before! This wonderful visit enlightens our day!

After the few hours we spend in each school we visit, we end up exhausted and starving… How do the teachers resist the whole day with such energy consuming pupils?
